Mardi Gras is a celebration that happens all around the world involving disguise via costumes, masks, crazy hair and of course the famous Mardi Gras beads!

Read Definition:

A zombie walk (also known as a zombie mob, zombie march, zombie horde, zombie lurch, zombie shamble, zombie shuffle, zombie monsta-mash, zombie irrigation, zombie hurricane or zombie crawl) is an organized public gathering of people who dress up in zombie costumes. Usually taking place in an urban center, the participants make their way around the city streets and through shopping malls to a public space (or a series of taverns in the case of a zombie pub crawl) in a somewhat orderly fashion.  Vancouver’s very own zombie walk is coming up this weekend folks! Yes. Saturday the 18th….! Again the costume experts here with some advice on how you can pull off the most amazing zombie look for you – even the whole family.

For the highly-un educated- A zombie is an individual who was once alive, died, and came back to walk the earth in search of live human brains. Brains are their only food source. They can be sexy, scary, suggestive of past careers, conjoined with animals, really anything goes for a zombie. But there are a few MUST HAVE’s:

1) BLOOD. And lot’s of it. Wether you have the guts to eat brains or not- blood suggests that you are a professional un-dead and come on, who doesn’t like to be covered in it?

2) EYES. Zombies are not real human beings. Zombies have crazy eyes. Crazy contacts are safe (choose your brands wisely), fun, and you can layer them over top of your own persription lenses!

      Thanks for Taking the time to fill out this interview Peter! You are our official Pride expert! As a well-known prefermer and recording artist can you tell us how Pride has helped you in your career? 

 ”Thank you for asking me! I guess performing at Pride events was the first time I felt my career go up a notch. I went from doing little club shows and parties to performing for thousands of people and large scale events. It was a huge boost in confidence for me and it really gave me validation I had been craving. Plus the energy at any pride event is always amazing and to be able to add something to that is very magical.”

How many years have you been performing in |Vancouver? Can you tell us about your fav costume that you have worn on stage?

  “Well before I started doing music I was in film school and involved in a lot of local shows. Lots of improve and short films. I was also hosting and throwing parties within the first year of being here so I’ve been performing ever since I got here which is about 5 years….I think my favorite costume was my Ronald McDonald outfit. I wore it when I did a show in Edmonton and it was just really fun. Really skimpy, but really fun.”

You are always dressing in something outrageous! What inspires you to costume yourself the way you do?

 ” Well everyone knows the club kids were a huge early influence for me. I always liked looking dramatic and outrageous. I felt better when I looked like a cartoon character.  Around the Taxi video I started working with Jason Matlo and that’s when my ideas really started to take shape. He was able to interpret what I wanted and make it strong and defined. Its easy too look at the club kids and say “ I wanna look like that” but the execution is actually quite difficult…if you want to do it justice.  I realized that I had to do more than just wear fishnets, fur and red lipstick if I wanted to take my image to the next level.  The Video that we are working on now still has very strong looks but you will see growth.”

 In the past what have been some of your Fav places to party during Pride and why?

“I really like the street parties in any city. That’s usually where the pride vibe is most intense. That’s where you see the city and the people who aren’t necessarily a part of the LGBT community taking part in our little party and I love that.  I’ve been lucky enough to have performed at major pride events when I do my shows and its always fun to be a part of huge parties like Rapture in Vancouver or the Pure Pride events across Canada.  I enjoy injecting my little pop show into the circuit scene.”

 What kind of advice can you give to our fans who will be experiancing pride for the first time this year? Costumes? Where to be?

 ”Wear whatever makes you feel like a supermodel and go to as many parties as possible. I always tell people to pace themselves so that they can really do the most over those couple days but in reality everyone is fucked up by noon on the first day…so just make sure you are with people you love and you have sunglasses on so people don’t get pictures of you with your eyes rolling into the back of your head.”

Can we catch you performing at Pride this year? What are you going to wear?!! If you can’t give away your juicy stage costume what might you wear to the after party?

 ”I’ll be performing at Rapture at the Commodore on Pride Sunday. Its Gotham Themed and ill be performing as one of Batman’s most famous villains… I am working with D.W right now to bring that character to life and obviously put a PB spin on it. Who knows what I’ll wear to the after party…I’m actually flying to LA the day after Vancouver pride so hopefully something that gets me through customes.”
